Checklist:
SKIS, BOOTS, POLES
Touring skis, backcountry ski boots, and adjustable poles for skiing.
HELMET
Prioritize safety! Your helmet should fit well over a thin, windproof hat and stay in place when you shake your head.
CRAMPONS
Rentable if required.
BEACON, SHOVEL, AND PROBE
Pack extra batteries for your beacon and check it has over 90% battery before departure.
BASE LAYER – 2 SETS
Two sets of wool long-sleeve tops and bottoms. Choose Warm, Extra Warm, or Expedition thickness.
MID-LAYER
A medium-weight wool or fleece top to wear over your base layer.
INSULATED JACKET
A thick, insulated jacket for breaks. A puffy jacket filled with down or synthetic material is ideal.
SHELL / RAIN JACKET
A waterproof jacket, like Gore-Tex, is crucial in Norway’s climate. It must have a hood and keep you dry even in continuous rain. Jackets with ventilation zips are preferable.
SHELL PANTS
Waterproof shell pants, ideally Gore-Tex. Opt for durable pants with ventilation zips for warmth and breathability.
EXTRA INSULATED JACKET
An insulated jacket (synthetic or down) that fits over your base and mid-layers but under your rain shell, allowing full movement.
EXTRA TOP LAYER
A medium-thickness layer to add under your mid-layer jacket for extra warmth if needed.
GLOVES & MITTENS
Bring three pairs: thin wool gloves, windproof over mittens, and an extra pair of thick mittens for backup.
HATS
Two warm hats: one thick and one thin, with at least one windproof. Also, bring a sun hat or cap for sun protection.
HIKING SOCKS
Wool socks recommended, above ankle length or higher. Pack two thin pairs, two thick pairs, and an extra thick pair for evenings.
SKI BACKPACK
A 35-50 liter backpack for daily essentials and emergency gear: food, water, beacon, shovel, probe, extra layers, first aid kit, etc.
SUNGLASSES
UV-rated sunglasses with a strap to keep them secure. Choose dark lenses with plastic frames.
SUNSCREEN / CHAPSTICK
UV-rated sunscreen and chapstick. Consider cold cream like Dermatone to protect your skin.
WATER BOTTLES
An insulated water bottle with a 2-liter capacity. Avoid camelback bladders as they can freeze. A thermos is optional for hot drinks.
PERSONAL MEDICATIONS
Carry all personal medications and inform us about any allergies or medical requirements.
GOGGLES
Essential for eye protection in harsh weather conditions.
BOOTS
Lightweight boots for the transition from the boat to the snow.
HEADLAMP
Bring a headlamp with spare batteries, as they deplete faster in the cold.
WOOL UNDERWEAR
Wool underwear and bras are highly recommended. Avoid cotton fabrics.
CAMERA
Insulate your camera to ensure it functions in the cold. Bring an extra battery pack.
SITTING MAT
An insulating sitting mat for warmth during breaks.
